The price rebound serves as "a reminder of the risk that is rooted in ever-growing tension in the Middle East," PVM analyst Tamas Varga said in a note. As the threat of the conflict expanding persists, Blinken was set to travel to the Middle East for a week of diplomacy, the State Department said. "There is still plenty of tension in the Middle East with Houthi rebels launching a sea drone in the Red Sea, a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad," ING analysts said in a report on Friday. July 13 (Reuters) - California, the seventh-biggest U.S. crude oil producer, has put a near halt on issuing permits for new drilling this year, according to state data. New drilling permits have steadily declined since Gavin Newsom became governor in 2019, but the current rate of approval represents a sudden and dramatic drop. In an email, CalGEM attributed the smaller number of approvals to both the broader decline in California oil production and litigation that has paused permitting by Kern County, the center of the state's oil industry. The governor wants to phase out oil drilling in the state by 2045. California also passed a law last year banning oil and gas drilling within 3,200 feet of structures including homes, schools and hospitals.

Yet interest in the profession has plummeted over the last decade, leading to a national shortage of at least 5,000 reporters, according to the Association for Court Reporters and Captioners. It typically takes between 18 and 24 months to earn a court reporting certificate or degree, according to Indeed.
